Scientific Interests:

Research essentially in the area of Organometallic Chemistry and Homogeneous Catalysis, with great emphasis on Oligomerization and  Polymerization of unsaturated molecules (e.g. alkenes, alkynes, dienes). The studies are based on the design and synthesis of new ligands and metal complexes, their molecular and physico-chemical characterisation, stoichiometric and catalytic reactivity and the study of the correspondent reaction mechanisms. Presently, the on-going subjects are: 

- Oligomerization and Polymerization Catalysis

- Other applications in Homogeneous Catalysis (e.g. cycloaddition of azides and alkynes, hydroboration, hydrogenation, etc.)

- New coordination/organometallic materials with luminescent properties (e.g. applications in OLED devices)

- New coordination/organometallic compounds with magnetic properties (e.g. SMMs, i.e. Single-Molecules Magnets)

- New charge-inverted Ionic Liquids

- New coordination/organometallic compounds containing iminopyrrolyl ligands.

- New organometallic compounds containing N-heterocyclic carbenes.

- New coordination/organometallic compounds containing diazadiene ligands.

- New organometallic Group 10 metal compounds containing allyl, indenyl and cyclopentadienyl ligands.

Several techniques are used in the study and structural characterization of the metal complexes synthesized (e.g. NMR, EPR, Magnetochemistry, Mass Spectrometry, X-Ray diffraction, FT-IR, DSC, absorption and emission UV-Vis, DFT) and in the micro-structural, mass and thermal characterization of polymers and copolymers obtained (e.g. NMR, GPC/SEC, DSC).
