Principais Interesses Científicos:

Investigação desenvolvida essencialmente na área da Química Organometálica e da Catálise Homogénea, com grande ênfase na Oligomerização e Polimerização de moléculas insaturadas (e.g. alcenos, alcinos, dienos). Nos estudos desenvolvidos usa-se uma abordagem molecular, procedendo-se à síntese e "design" de ligandos, preparação de complexos de metais de transição, caracterização molecular e químico-física, estudo da sua reactividade estequiométrica e catalítica e dos correspondentes mecanismos de reacção. Os temas presentemente em curso são:

- Oligomerização e Polimerização catalítica

- Outras aplicações em Catálise Homogénea (e.g. cicloadição de azidas a alcinos, hidroboração, hidrosililação, hidrogenação, etc.)

- Novos compostos de coordenação/organometálicos com propriedades luminescentes (e.g. aplicações em dispositivos OLED)

- Novos compostos de coordenação/organometálicos com propriedades magnéticas (e.g. SMMs, i.e. Single-Molecules Magnets)

- Novos líquidos iónicos de carga invertida

- Novos compostos coordenação/organometálicos contendo ligandos  iminopirrolilo

- Novos compostos organometálicos contendo carbenos N-heterocíclicos

- Novos compostos coordenação/organometálicos contendo ligandos diazadieno

- Novos compostos organometálicos do Grupo 10 contendo ligandos alilo, indenilo e ciclopentadienilo.

Várias técnicas são usadas na caracterização estrutural e no estudo dos complexos metálicos sintetizados (e.g. RMN, RPE, magnetoquímica, Espectrometria de Massa, Difracção de Raios-X, FT-IR, DSC, absorção e emissão de UV-Vis, DFT) e na caracterização micro-estrutural, mássica e térmica dos polímeros e copolímeros obtidos (e.g. RMN, GPC/SEC, DSC).
