.pt Dez 2024 Luís Oliveira e Silva é Professor Distinto e Professor Catedrático do Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade de Lisboa, desde 2010, (onde é actualmente Presidente do Conselho de Escola, e onde foi Presidente do Conselho Científico entre 2013 e 2020) e Visiting Professor no Departamento de Física da Universidade de Oxford desde 2022. Obteve os seus graus e títulos académicos (Lic. 1992, Doutoramento 1997 e Agregação em 2005) no IST, tendo sido Post Doctoral Fellow da Universidade da Califórnia Los Angeles entre 1997 e 2001. As suas contribuições científicas centram-se na exploração in silico da interação de radiação e lasers intensos e feixes de partículas com plasmas, quer do ponto de vista teórico quer recorrendo a simulações numéricas de larga escala, em cenários laboratoriais e astrofísicos. Entre outras distinções nacionais e internacionais, recebeu duas Advanced Grants do Conselho Europeu de Investigação, a Medalha Blaise Pascal em Física 2024, é Fellow da American Physical Society, da European Physical Society e da European Academy of Sciences, e Sócio Efetivo da Academia das Ciências de Lisboa. Foi agraciado como Grande Oficial da Ordem da Instrução Pública em 2019.

.en Dec 2024 Luís Oliveira e Silva is Distinguished Professor, and Professor of Physics at Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon, since 2010, where he is also now President of the School Council, having being President of the Scientific Council from 2013 to 2020. He is also Visiting Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Oxford since 2022. He obtained his degrees (Lic. 1992, PhD 1997 and Habilitation 2005) from IST, and was a post-doctoral researcher at the University of California Los Angeles from 1997 to 2001. His scientific contributions are focused in the in silico exploration of the interaction of intense beams of particles and lasers with plasmas, in laboratory and astrophysical scenarios. He has been awarded with several national and international awards, including Grande Oficial da Ordem da Instrução Pública by the President of the Portuguese Republic, the 2024 Blaise Pascal Medal in Physics, two ERC Advanced Grants, and election to Fellow of the American Physical Society, the European Physical Society, the European Academy of Sciences, and to Effective Member of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences.
