Virtual Machine Characteristics:


  1. Download and extract the virtual machine image file.
  2. Start the virtualization client. If you still have not installed this component, you may choose one from the several freely available tools in internet. Choose the most appropriate distribution for your operating system (MS Windows, Linux, MacOS, Solaris) and for your host processor architecture (32-bits or 64-bits). Examples:
  3. Create a new virtual machine. Example for the VirtualBox client:
    1. Click the New button or use Machine > New;
    2. Insert a name for your virtual machine (e.g.: P3VM-1.1.0);
    3. As operating system choose Linux and as version openSUSE;
    4. Choose the base memory size (1024 MB);
    5. Unselect the Start-up Disk option;
    6. Press Continue at the pop-up window that appears;
    7. Check the parameters that are displayed in the window and finialize with Create;
    8. Click the Settings button or use Machine > Settings;
    9. Select Storage;
    10. Press the Add new controller icon (plus sign, on the bottom-right) and select Add SCSI controller;
    11. Press Add a virtual disk icon (plus sign, on the right);
    12. Press Choose existing disk and select the .vmdk file, extracted before;
    13. Press OK.
  4. Execute the virtual machine by clicking the Start button.
