Calculates the parameters in a multiple linear
regression problem. (The procedure is applicable to functions of the
independent variables, provided that the model remains linear.)
For powers of x (instead of x1,
x2, etc.), supply the powers as new variables
(x1 ≡ x,
x2 ≡ x², etc.).
