About me

I am Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Princeton University, under the supervision of Simon A. Levin and supported by a James S. McDonnell Foundation Fellowship.

I completed my PhD (2018) at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST, Lisboa) under the supervision of Francisco C. Santos, Jorge M. Pacheco and Ana Paiva (Summa Cum Laude, 2018 Victor Lesser Distinguished Dissertation Award (by IFAAMAS), Best Doctoral Thesis in Artificial Intelligence 2017-2018 (by Associação Portuguesa para a Inteligencia Artificial) and 2018 INESC-ID best PhD Student award). I completed an MSc in Computer Science (2013) at IST, with a semester as exchange student at TU Delft. I worked as a research assistant at GAIPS (INESC-ID ) and as a member of the ATP-Group . I served as teaching assistant at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of IST, lecturing practical classes of Introduction to Algorithms and Data Structures (Spring 2016, Spring 2017) and Object Oriented Programming (Fall 2014, Fall 2015, Fall 2016, Fall 2017).

My research work is focused on the development of computational models to simulate and understand collective dynamics, specifically in what concerns the evolution of non-trivial behaviors such as cooperation and fairness. At the moment, I am concerned with 1) the role played by social norms and reputation systems in the evolution of cooperation; 2) the emergence of fairness in games involving groups and 3) the dynamics of strategic interactions that involve multiple sectors of a society.

From January to March 2017 I was a visiting student at Université Libre de Bruxelles, working under the supervision of Tom Lenearts (Machine Learning Group).

From March to July 2017 I was a visiting student research collaborator (VSRC) at Princeton University, working under the supervision of Simon A. Levin (Levin Lab, Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology).
