{"id":1794,"date":"2013-04-22T01:06:29","date_gmt":"2013-04-22T00:06:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/web.ist.utl.pt\/rmch\/?p=1794"},"modified":"2015-04-26T19:53:55","modified_gmt":"2015-04-26T18:53:55","slug":"one-year-of-research-in-retrospective","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/web.ist.utl.pt\/rmch\/archives\/1794","title":{"rendered":"One year of research in retrospective"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My research path has been very fruitful during this last year.<br \/>\nBefore all, the collaboration and tutoring initiatives with the members of our project team were beyond rewarding!<br \/>\nAlso there have been many advances in our streams of research.<br \/>\n<em>First<\/em>, we completed the challenging task of adapting generative learners, such as HMMs, to deal with itemset sequences.<br \/>\nAnd nothing better than obtaining promising results across domains!<br \/>\n<em>Second<\/em>, multi-period classification is growing mature!<br \/>\n<em>Third<\/em>, we proposed an effective way of performing classification over complex heritage data by relying on discriminative temporal patterns.<br \/>\nWe will present the key implications of this method at the SDM conference in Austin.<br \/>\n<em>Fourth<\/em>, emotion recognition in affective engagements from physiological signals already led to some publications, being the last contribution presented at the HRI conference in Tokyo.<br \/>\n<em>Fifth<\/em>, structural revisions of (temporal) pattern mining methods for biomedical data are interestingly showing significant performance improvements.<br \/>\n<em>Sixth<\/em>, and finally, we have been validating many contributions in the field of pattern-based biclustering.<br \/>\nWe are confident that pattern-based biclustering approaches will be a significant mark on how to discover flexible biclustering solutions efficiently.<\/p>\n<p>And, to balance all the dedication to this world of computational inquiry, nothing better than to take some time off for Self-nurturing around US and Mexico!
