ATD - Technology for ATD

Coordinator (INESC): M. Serafim Nunes
Starting date: 01/88; Duration: 5 years.
Funding institutions: European Commission.

The RACE 1022 "Technology for ATD" project lasted from 1988 to 1993. It comprised a consortium of 32 partners, including the leading industries and universities of Europe. This project, led by Alcatel Bell, designed and implemented various ATM subsystems, which were basically the first ATM equipment developments in Europe. INESC collaborated in the design of ATM terminals for audio and video. Basically, Terminal Adapters based on AAL1 were designed to adapt CBR audio and CBR video to ATM. These units were integrated in the final demonstration of the project at Swiss Telecom, Basel, Switzerland.

Mário Nunes was coordinator of INESC participation and responsible for the Workpackage "Terminal Adaptors" in this project.
