Jorge Fernandes Short Biography

Description automatically generated Jorge Fernandes (S’97–M’00–SM’10) was born in Lisbon in 1966. He received the Degree in electrical engineering from the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), Universidade de Lisboa, Portugal, in 1989, and the M.Sc., Ph.D., and Habilitation degrees from the same university in 1993, 2000, and 2010, respectively. He was a Visiting Scholar with the Delft University of Technology, Delft, The Netherlands, in 2000 and in 2018, and Columbia University, New York, USA, in 2008.

He joined the teaching staff of the Department of Electrical Engineering at IST in 1990, where he is now Full Professor.

He has also been with INESC-ID Lisboa since 1989. He was in the board of directors of INESC-ID from 2013 to 2021 and is currently the coordinator of the Nano-Electronic Circuits and Systems research area.

He was the chair of the Analog Signal Processing Technical Committee of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society in 2022-23; the General Co-chair of the International Symposium on Circuits and Systems (ISCAS) in 2015 and the Technical Program Chair for ESSCIRC/ESSDERC in 2023.

His current research interests include analog, mixed signal, and RF circuits, with emphasis on autonomous sensor circuits and low-power RF frontends.
