I came across this very interesting talk about gamifying education, which presents a few ideas that can spice things up for students a little bit. However, as pointed by this article, intrinsic motivation may fall short. It is true that extrinsic reward systems can break creativity and that students shouldn’t only be looking up for this one subject to get the XP. However, aren’t they already doing it just for the grade and to pass the course? I know that having good grades was one of my major drives to study during high-school and college.
In my opinion, it’s really a matter of how things are done. I think that gamification can really make things more interesting and appealing. What’s your take on it?
