Research Overview

Energy and charge transfer processes in optically responsive molecular material, with special relevance to emissive nonlinear material and organic semiconductors. Carbon nanomaterials for imaging and sensing based on nonlinear fluorescence methods. The tools used to address these topics are steady-state and time resolved optical spectroscopy (including UV-Vis, NIR and mid-IR; from fs to ms), fluorescence microscopy and electronic structure calculations

Research Topics

	Engineering carbon dots (Cdots) towards high two-photon brightness for biomedical applications. Find the missing link between the structure and the nonlinear emission of Cdots enabling their controlled synthesis and tailoring for applications in diagnostics, sensing and therapeutics.
Opening new avenues future applications of distorted nanostrutures based on the study of the optical properties (nonlinear and circularly polarized emission) of nanographenes with well defined strutural defects
	Study of the bioactivity of quindoline derivatives as antimalarial agents acting in the intraerythrocytic cycle of the malaria parasite and as anticancer drugs. This study is done using the two-photon emission of the active compounds.
Photophysics and conductivity of molecular single crystals and single crystal interfaces with applications in solar energy conversion and organic electronics.
