Research
started in 1983 with the MsC Thesis in catalytic oxidation of olefins to
ketones with Pd complexes carried out at the Laboratoire d' Oxidation, Institut
Français du Pétrole in Rueil-Malmaison, France, under the supervision of
H. Mimoun. The PhD thesis on the reactivity of molybdenum and tungsten
metallocenes included a stage at the Technical University of Munich, Germany,
in the goup of W. A. Herrmann, working under the supervision of A. Fillipou
(1991). After PhD carried out a post-doc in the Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory,
University of Oxford, England, in the group of Malcolm Green (1991-93) working
with titanium, zirconium and molybdenum ansa–ciclopentadienyl–amido and –imido
complexes. In 1998 spent a sabatical leave as a visiting researcher in the
group of M. L. H. Green at the Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory, University
of Oxford, England working with rhodium and iridium
ansa-ciclopentadienyl-phosfine.
Scientific
Interests
Organometallic Chemistry: synthesis
and reactivity of transition metal organometallic compounds and applications in
catalysis
Independent
research started in 1993 at Centro de Química Estrutural, Instituto Superior
Técnico. The work focus on the study of M-hydride, M-carbon (alkyls,
isocyanides, olefins and acetylenes) and M-N (amidos, imidos, azavinilidenes,
nitriles) organometallic complexes with emphasis in structure/reactivity
relationships through modifications of support ligands, metals and oxidation
states, directed to the following subjects:
– Olefin homo-
and copolymerization with titanium and zirconium catalysts
– Nitrogen and
acetilenes activation and functionalization with zirconium and tantalum
azamacrocyclic complexes
– Olefin
epoxidation with molybdenum and tungsten oxo-complexes
– Catalytic
hydrogenation of ketones with molybdenum and tungsten hydrides
